Formula
G = 1 / R
Description
Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance and measures how easily a component passes current, in siemens. It is the natural quantity for analysing parallel circuits, where conductances simply add, just as resistances add in series. Working in conductance often makes node analysis and parallel combinations far simpler than juggling reciprocals of resistance.
Variables
- G — Conductance (S)
- R — Resistance (Ω)
Practical Notes
Parallel conductances add: Gtotal = G1 + G2 + …. The AC generalisation is admittance Y = 1/Z = G + jB, where B is susceptance.
